“A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.’’

Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces.

Long before the written word, the monomyth, aka the Hero’s Journey has played an integral part in the way that stories have been structured for centuries.

From ancient mythology to modern-day cinema, this storytelling blueprint epitomizes the transformational journey of the human experience, where a person must accept the call to adventure, confront obstacles within and without of themselves, in order to achieve growth.

Whether you’re aware of it or not, you’ve more than likely come across the Hero’s Journey in action, particularly in the last 50 years of cinema.
