An insightful reading! I liken it to not being any different than a playground game where the person will only play if they are the benefactor. Otherwise, they make up excuses as to why the ‘game’ is corrupt or rigged. Only when the player benefits, then that’s when they drop their supposed belief system about its skewness.
As you said, through self-development and growth there’s a way to play the game for the right reasons while upholding integrity and not falling trap to the hookup culture- you play because you have the rights intentions of meeting the one you want to be with long-term. Then you leave it.
Some people play it for so long, they forget why they got into it in the first place.
It’s funny how environment plays a large part in a person’s confidence, yet arguably that confidence was just dormant and was there all along.
